From Eyesore to Lush Greenwall Fountain: Suzanne’s Home Office Transformation

LOCATION: Nanaimo BC  |  TYPE: Fountain | COMPLETED: 2024 | CLIENT: Private Residence | Budget: $15,000

A lush, green indoor garden with dense foliage features a Greenwall Fountain: two stone basins stacked vertically, softly lit by warm light, creating a tranquil, natural waterfall effect—perfect for a relaxing Home Office Transformation.

Introduction

Suzanne, a professional working from a home office in Nanaimo, needed a solution to mask the neighbor’s garbage and recycling area visible directly from her office window. She wanted a calming environment suitable for professional video calls and daily work.

A large textured vase stands near a tall evergreen bush and a lush greenwall under a wooden awning in a backyard. In the background, there is a black barbecue grill and a white house with a chain-link fence.

What She Wanted

Suzanne wanted an attractive backdrop to screen the neighbours garbage and recycling area while providing a relaxing workspace environment.

A wooden garden trellis with a few bare branches stands on gravel near the corner of a house, bordered by evergreen shrubs and landscaping fabric—an easy eyesore to lush upgrade idea for your next home office transformation.

Challenges:

Her office window directly overlooked the neighbor’s garbage and recycling area, creating an unappealing view she had accepted as unavoidable. There was only 5ft of width to work with and Suzanne didn’t think there were any reasonable landscaping options.

Two large, rustic stone vases stand among rocks, pebbles, and ferns in a garden setting, creating the perfect backdrop for a lush greenwall that brings natural beauty to any home office transformation.

What She Tried:

Suzanne had not pursued any solutions before discussing the issue during our consultation, believing it was simply something she had to tolerate.

A rustic garden water feature with a stone fountain, moss-covered rocks, and a branch leaning against a black privacy screen framed by wooden posts creates a lush greenwall effect. Green shrubs surround the setup.

The Solution:

After hearing Suzanne’s complaint about the garbage and recycling during our consultation, I proposed a natural-looking solution: a greenwall paired with slate stacked urn water features. Here’s how the project came together:

  • I installed medium and small slate stacked urn fountains on a 350-gallon reservoir to provide a pleasant, low-maintenance visual focal point and relaxing water sounds.

  • Constructed a living greenwall featuring mosses, ferns, and evergreen plants for continuous, year-round visual coverage to mask the garbage and recycling cans.

  • Included landscape lighting to softly illuminate the water features and plants, making the space appealing both day and night.

Large ceramic pots are illuminated by warm outdoor lights in a shaded garden alcove, with a lush greenwall and moss-covered surfaces surrounding them, creating a tranquil nighttime scene.

The Results:

Suzanne’s workspace was greatly improved, providing a visually attractive backdrop that enhanced her daily working environment.

    • The neighbor’s garbage area was effectively hidden behind the greenwall and fountains.

    • Professional video calls now feature a pleasant and professional background.

    • The outdoor space became a relaxing part of her work environment, improving overall comfort and satisfaction.
